About Sue McNeil

Sue McNeil is a Visiting Professional Fellow in Civil and Environmental Engineering the University of New South Wales and an Emeritus Professor at the University of Delaware. With a background in Civil Engineering from the University of Newcastle and graduate studies at Carnegie Mellon University, she has held faculty positions at MIT, Carnegie Mellon, and the University of Illinois, Chicago.

Her current research focuses on transportation asset management, particularly examining the impact of natural hazards and climate change on infrastructure resilience. Stemming from her experiences with the NSW Department of Main Roads, she has a keen interest in aging infrastructure.

Dr. McNeil has collaborated with various organisations including the Federal Highway Administration and Departments of Transportation in Delaware, Illinois, and Wisconsin, working on process improvement and developing transportation performance indices.

As the editor-in-chief of ASCE’s Journal of Infrastructure Systems, she actively promotes professional development opportunities, particularly for women students, and contributes to interdisciplinary research on transportation infrastructure systems and policies.
