About Dr John Yeaman

John Yeaman has devoted his life to the study and improvement of roads, inheriting his passion from his father, who served as chief engineer of the Blue Mountain City Council. As a child, John accompanied his father on road inspections, fostering a deep understanding and appreciation for the intricacies of road infrastructure. His journey in civil engineering began when he witnessed the construction of Australia's first cement-stabilised road, sparking a lifelong fascination with road engineering.

Starting as a chainman surveying road alignments for proposed forests, John's career took him through various roles, from fire control officer in the Snowy Mountains scheme to technician at asphalt plants. His relentless pursuit of knowledge led him to earn a science qualification, a Master of Engineering, and ultimately a PhD in pavement engineering.

In 1981, John founded Pavement Management Services, pioneering innovative approaches to pavement maintenance. He later joined Fugro, where he continued his work before transitioning to academia as a Professor of Civil Engineering. Today, John remains active in research, focusing on creating knowledge-based systems for pavement management using cutting-edge technologies like machine learning and artificial intelligence. His lifelong dedication to roads has left an indelible mark on the field of civil engineering.
